RADIOSPIRE NETWORKS DEMONSTRATES SHORT-RANGE
MULTI-GIGABIT WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY AT 60 GHz

Radiospire Successfully Demonstrates 1.6 Gbps Wireless Transmission in 60-GHz Spectrum using IBM’s mmWave Radio and Radiospire’s Spectrum-Agnostic AirHook™ Baseband

Hudson, MA - October 8, 2008

Radiospire Networks, a fabless semiconductor company designing and delivering multi-Gbps wireless system solutions, today announced it has successfully demonstrated uncompressed high-definition (HD) video transmission in the 60-GHz spectrum using Radiospire’s AirHook™ baseband technology and IBM’s 60-GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) radio technology. The demonstration marks a significant step toward advancing the use of multi-gigabit wireless technology for a growing class of short-range, personal area network (PAN) applications.

Using the digital and analog baseband processors from Radiospire’s AirHook chipset and IBM’s mmWave silicon germanium (SiGe) receiver and transmitter radio chips, Radiospire was able to successfully demonstrate uncompressed HD video transmission in the 60-GHz spectrum.

“With its abundant, unlicensed bandwidth and worldwide overlap, the 60-GHz spectrum holds significant promise in enabling wireless connectivity for a growing number of high data rate applications,” said Jim Rogers, Analog and Mixed Signal Product Manager, IBM System & Technology Group. “However, substantial cost and performance barriers have impeded its progress. This demonstration with Radiospire shows by combining the lower costs and smaller form factor of our silicon germanium mmWave IC’s, with AirHook’s spectrum-agnostic baseband processors, we’re one step closer to making multi-Gbps wireless a reality for a host of high-demand business and consumer applications.”

Radiospire’s AirHook technology is a multi-Gbps wireless technology ideally suited for ultra-rapid multimedia downloading for mobile phones, wireless docking systems for PCs and high-capacity wireless gigabit Ethernet. The AirHook chipset is radio-spectrum agnostic and designed to operate in any broadband radio channel, including the unlicensed 3.1 to 10.6 GHz and 57 to 66 GHz spectrums.

“We’ve always believed the best approach to realizing multi-Gbps wireless’ true potential is in a measured, spectrum-agnostic fashion,” said Paul Powers, CEO of Radiospire Networks. “This approach enables a viable solution for today and tomorrow, as evidenced by our demonstration with the IBM technology. By successfully demonstrating AirHook’s ability to operate in the 60- GHz spectrum, we provide manufacturers with a pathway to achieving multi-Gbps wireless connectivity globally, while continuing to offer a suitable nearer term solution in UWB.”

Research for multi-gigabit wireless connectivity continues to receive increasing support from worldwide academic and industry initiatives such as the IEEE 802.15.3c standards body, the WirelessHD™ special interest group and ECMA International's TC32-TG20 task group. Through these and other industry efforts, Radiospire Networks aims to further establish the market standard for super-high bandwidth wireless connectivity in the home.
